Chanel’s process for making its iconic, chain-lined tweed jackets is a multitiered operation that requires a lot of people — and a lot of attention to detail. Most of the work is done by hand, and it’s hard not to be captivated watching it happen. Watch the video of “the secrets of the little black jacket” Chanel now decided to dedicate a full book to the jacket.
“The Chanel jacket has become the symbol of a certain elegance, feminine, with an air of nonchalance, classic and timeless, that is of all times,” said Karl Lagerfeld in Paris after the photo shoot of the book The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld.
For this project the designer gathered more than a hundred celebrities. Actors, artists, singers, rock stars… Sarah Jessica Parker, Georgia May Jagger, Alice Dellal, Maïwenn, Laetitia Casta, Virginie Ledoyen or Akuol of Mabior, all wore the little black jacket their own way. The book will be available in bookstores from Fall 2012, it will accompany the opening of an exhibition dedicated to it, which will run from March 24th until April 15th 2012 in Tokyo.
