Christy hearts Esprit

A while ago, I expressed my not so positive opinion on the Gisele campaign for Esprit. But this time around, the brand did everything right! I LOVE the campaign they have done with Christy Turlington.

It’s not a secret that Christy Turlington is a huge yoga fan and therefore she is the ideal face for the “wellness capsule collection” campaign that Esprit is running now. The “honest & inspiring” brand that Esprit wants to be perceived as nowadays, fits the mood & images of the campaign completely! In addition, Christy is also the face of the brand’s new fragrance “Just You”.

The brand has been working very hard on repositioning itself with a new corporate identity, new store concepts, new website etc. It’s all part of a huge company transformation, and based on their annual report, all the investments are starting to pay of. With the arrival of a new CEO – an ex-Inditex/Zara executive – earlier this year, exciting times are ahead of them.

After all these company and marketing changes, I hope they will start investing the same energy in making their collections more fashion forward. With a new trend division in place, I hope they will make that turnaround soon.

Everybody wants a piece of Kling

Elin Kling is a great example of how a blogger can take over the world. This 20-something girl from Sweden made it from local blogging hero to international fashion icon in 5 years!

She started her blog Style by Kling in 2007 and after 2 months it was already the most popular fashion blog in Sweden. This success kicked-off her career as fashion editor of SOLO (Swedish lifestyle magazine) and Expressen (Swedish daily), to eventually starting up her own magazine Styleby (available in Swedish).

In 2010 she made her introduction into television as head stylist of IDOL and she competed on “Dancing with the Stars”. She was the first fashion-blogger in the world to have her own collection for H&M, which was unfortunately only available in Sweden. NET-A-PORTER signed her up for their Spring 2012 campaign, shot by the great Patrick Demarchelier.

This month, she is launching her capsule collection for Guess by Marciano, the brand’s first ever design collaboration.

And the collaborations just go on and on and on.. Everybody wants to have a piece of Kling! It’s clear that a successful blogger needs to be a multi-talent. I wonder how long it will be till a blogger makes the TIME Most Influential People-list.

Victoria Beckham à la française

What happens when you give Karl Lagerfeld a camera and Victoria Beckham as his model? An amazing photo shoot for Elle France!

We’ve seen many great photo shoots from both, before and behind the camera, but this collaboration between fashion royalty has worked its magic: the mood of the B/W pictures, the luxurious setting and an amazingly looking Victoria. I predict the copies of the November Elle edition will be out of the shops in no time. My favourite picture is of course the one on the iconic Coco Chanel staircase with the mirrors. Enjoy.

Seeing the beauty of this…I still don’t understand what Chanel was thinking when producing the new Chanel No 5 commercial with Brad Pitt. I guess Karl Lagerfeld did not oversee that project closely enough…

Raf vs Hedi

Paris Fashion Week is already a couple of weeks behind us, but the buzz over Raf Simons and Hedi Slimane is not over yet. Both designers showed their first RTW collection (SS2013) for their new “employers”: Christian Dior and Saint Lauren Paris.

Raf showed a very gracious modern collection, including colour and short dresses. The dark creations from Hedi dressed in smokings and long gowns were rather heavy and monotone. These 2 collection couldn’t have been more contrasting than black and white.

De media is loving everything Raf’s presents them with. Suzy Menkes and Vogue can’t find enough superlatives to describe the work of the designer. On the other side of town, Hedi has put the PR department of Saint Laurent Paris at work. Several fashion critics were not impressed by his collection, but it was Cathy Horyn from The New York Times who made the designer hit the roof. Hedi Slimane immediately started a cat-fight on Twitter putting the journalist’s credibility in question.

Signature pieces of the collection:

1 – 0 for Raf Simons if you ask me. Make that 2 – 0, based on that amazing couture show earlier this year. So proud to be Belgian!
