Fashion Highlights 2012

Although I left Belgium 7 years ago, I am still proud of being Belgian and the footprint we have in the fashion industry. So here are my 10 (Belgian) fashion highlights of 2012:

THE top event for me in 2012, was when Dior confirmed that Raf Simons joined the fashion house. I watched his first couture show online and was truly amazed by the beauty of it. Another established designer, Dries Van Noten had again a successful year and received a lot of industry recognition for his collections. Although Martin Margiela is no longer active at Maison Martin Margiela, its guest designer collection for H&M included a lot of his signature pieces from the “early years”. Also the younger designers made themselves noticed on the fashion stage: Bruno Pieters launched his honest fashion platform and Christopher De Vos – part of the Peter Pilotto designer duo – was right on trend with the best print collection of the year. Other artists like Selah Sue and Matthias Schoennaerts also made their appearance. Selah Sue‘s beautiful song “Just because I do” was chosen by Yves Saint Laurent for their Manifesto perfume commercial. Matthias Schoenaerts, who made his introduction in Hollywood last year, starred in an amazing photo-shoot for US Vogue together with Carolyn Murphy. Last but not least, Belgian top model Cesar Casier wrote the cook book Model Kitchen and Laura Yumi Lambert will be the first Belgian model appearing in a Chanel ad shot by Karl Lagerfeld last year. Sounds like a good year to me!
And of course 2012 was also the year that sofischoice.me saw the light.
