Punk trends at the MET Ball 2013

Monday evening all Hollywood A-listers and fashion celebrities walked the red carpet of the annual Costume Institute Gala in New York. The theme this year was “Punk: from chaos to couture”. A topic that is completely on trend, but oh my God… I have never seen so many missers on a red carpet. But let’s not focus on the bad, let’s highlight some of the punk trends we spotted:

Rocking lace + sheer dresses

More is More: the pant + dress

Pointy T-strap heels

White punk hair

Big & shiny head accessories

Season’s must have: espadrilles

Forget about loafers or flip flops, this summer you will be wearing espadrilles! The casual shoe with its signature jute sole will be a true hit on the beach as in the city. They are super comfortable and come in sooooo many colours & patters to fit all your different moods. But most importantly, they are stylish and cheap at the same time (unless you buy a designer pair from Chanel or Valentino).

Prada + Roaring Twenties = The Great Gatsby

PradaSohoStoreGatsbyEven before the movie is out (scheduled to hit theatres May 10) you can already admire all the costumes Prada created for The Great Gatsby. The full looks are on display in the Prada store in SoHo New York till May 12.

Miuccia Prada adapted 40 dresses from the Prada and Miu Miu archives for the movie. The designer admits that what intrigued her the most when working on the project was the way in which many of her designs could be so easily translated into Twenties pieces – despite not necessarily being originally created with that era in mind.

It seems like the whole world is in great anticipation for this movie. Let’s hope it will meet the expectations. But if you ask me, the academy award for best costume design can already go to Miuccia Prada!
