Monday evening all Hollywood A-listers and fashion celebrities walked the red carpet of the annual Costume Institute Gala in New York. The theme this year was “Punk: from chaos to couture”. A topic that is completely on trend, but oh my God… I have never seen so many missers on a red carpet. But let’s not focus on the bad, let’s highlight some of the punk trends we spotted:
Even before the movie is out (scheduled to hit theatres May 10) you can already admire all the costumes Prada created for The Great Gatsby. The full looks are on display in the Prada store in SoHo New York till May 12.
Miuccia Prada adapted 40 dresses from the Prada and Miu Miu archives for the movie. The designer admits that what intrigued her the most when working on the project was the way in which many of her designs could be so easily translated into Twenties pieces – despite not necessarily being originally created with that era in mind.
It seems like the whole world is in great anticipation for this movie. Let’s hope it will meet the expectations. But if you ask me, the academy award for best costume design can already go to Miuccia Prada!
Victor Farentina, digital art designer, has drawn up a gown collection inspired by several social media websites. The specific colors and features of the websites are recreated in each dress. The dresses are not available in stores, but they are perfect for a virtual social media event :-)
