“Be your own flag” –Patricia Field

Coco Chanel said it the best: fashion fades, style remains the same.

The good thing about style is that it doesn’t have a price tag. You don’t have to wear designer clothes to have style. It’s all about mastering how you wear clothes, than what you wear.

Patricia Field, world famous stylist and creator of the Carrie-style, has 2 basic style rules that say it all:

There is nothing more off-putting than clothes that are too small. Some people might mentally have a problem with buying a certain size, but clothes that are too small will never make you look good. Know your body & shape and dress to bring out your good parts and learn how to camouflage your not so nice parts.

Don’t be a slave to trends, but find a style that fits your personality. You have to “wear” the clothes and not let the clothes wear you. You can easily personalise your style with unique accessories. Don’t underestimate the “little things”, because they can have a big impact on your overall look.

If you keep these 2 style tips in mind, then you have all the basics in house to build your personal image through fashion.

Fashion @ Olympics – Gold medal for…

The British clan did their best to make a good appearance for the opining of the Olympic Games 2012 in London. But if you ask me, it was Michelle Obama who won the gold medal! She even outshone Kate Middleton, who looked very conservative and a bit old-fashioned. Michelle Obama doesn’t have the most easy body shape to style, but she (and her stylist) know very well how to bring everything in the right proportion. And she puts fun and colour into her looks and loves to accessorise. Well deserved gold medal!

Fashion + Music = match made in heaven

Who showed first interest in who? I guess it’s a chicken and egg story, but one things is for sure: it works. The 2 most recent collaborations are with Kate Moss + George Michael and Guess + Tiesto.

Guess is teaming up with DJ and producer Tiesto for a limited-edition capsule collection and branded performances. The first result of that partnership will be in store next month: a Tiesto by Guess watch. An apparel collection will follow in October. Tiesto’s performances (supported by Guess) begin July 23 in Ibiza and continue through 2013. All the details about the partnership will be posted on, but for now you can register on the Guess website for updates.

George Michael and Kate Moss got together for the videoclip of George’s new single White Light. George Michael already used the fashion world as an inspiration in 1990 for his videoclip Freedom, featuring the super models from that time. That clip was a huge hit and has become a real classic. I don’t think the White Light clip will have the same success though. But at least Kate Moss looks amazing in it…

Raf Simons’ first Dior show

Today was THE day! Raf Simons’ first collection for the House of Dior was shown to the public, which was also his first couture collection ever. And I was there. Well, not in Paris but following the live streaming.

The show was held in a private house in Paris and each room was covered from floor to ceiling in fresh flowers. Each room another flower, another color. It looked amazing and very promising for what was about to come!

The show started off with very simple, minimalistic pieces but then it was like the archives of Dior opened and entered the 21st century. I am so happy to see that Raf brought the House of Dior back to its core: grace, elegance, femininity.

For the first time, a fashion show was attended by many fellow designers. Icons like Pierre Cardin, Azzedine Alaïa, Alber Elbaz, Donatella Versace and Diane von Furstenberg were there for Raf’s debut. It’s clear that Raf is very loved and highly respected in the industry.

There were also some negative comments about this collection, mainly from the fans of Galliano. I don’t understand the people who don’t see Christian Dior in this collection. Go check the archives I would say. For me, Galliano was not Dior. You can decide for yourself  and watch the show on YouTube.
